How to setup Upsell and Cross Sell products in WooCommerce

In this article, we will learn how to set up upsell and cross-sell products in WooCommmerce website. These are additional products that you can sell to visitors.

Upsell products are those that WooCommerce suggests to customers as a substitute or upgrade to the item they are presently seeing or buying. Usually, upsells are more expensive or superior versions of the product under consideration. By persuading customers to acquire a more pricey or feature-rich product, upselling aims to raise the value of the customer’s purchase.

Cross-sell products in WooCommerce are those that are recommended to customers based on their recent purchase or page visit. These goods are usually connected to or complimentary to the ones the buyer is looking at or has put in their shopping cart. Cross-selling encourages clients to add more items to their orders in order to raise the average order value.

What is Upsell product?

For example, if a customer is viewing a basic t-shirt on an e-commerce website, an upsell product might be a premium t-shirt with a higher price point and additional features such as a higher thread count or special fabric.

Upsells are usually placed strategically on the product page, on the cart page, or on the checkout page, and can be set up in the product settings in the WooCommerce dashboard.

It is important to note that, upselling should be done tastefully and should be limited to products that are closely related to the product being viewed or purchased, otherwise it can create negative experience for the customer.

What is Cross sell product?

For example, if a customer is purchasing a new camera, a cross-sell product might be a camera bag, lens cleaner or an additional lens. These products are closely related to the camera and can be useful accessories for the customer.

Cross-sells are usually placed strategically on the cart page or on the checkout page, and can be set up in the product settings in the WooCommerce dashboard.

Like upselling, it’s important to keep in mind that cross-selling should be done tastefully and be limited to products that are closely related to the product being purchased, otherwise it can create a negative experience for the customer.
